Smash and grab at two Sheridan churches

Burglars broke into two Sheridan churches over the weekend—one on Northwest Yamhill Street and the other on Southwest Madison Street—in both cases entering through a window. According to the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office one church was burglarized on Saturday and the other was broken into sometime between Friday and Sunday.

Sheriff deputies received a report on Aug. 14 that someone had entered Calvary Chapel West Valley, 121 NE Yamhill St., during the night. Entrance was gained through a window that had been broken out. The window screen was discovered lying on a church pew.

According to the YCSO report file cabinets were riffled through and a cabinet door broken, and two 12-inch Carver speakers were missing. Damage to the building was estimated at $250.

The church on Northeast Yamhill Street was not the only church targeted by burglars over the weekend. On Sunday deputies received a report of a

break-in at the Mennonite Church, 240 S.W. Madison St. which occurred sometime between Aug. 13 and 15. The inside of the building was damaged and a Dell computer and an In Focus projector were reported stolen. The loss was estimated at $1,600.
