Who will kiss the pig?

Willamina Fourth of July plans all set

For dollars and squeals, the Coastal Hills Chamber of Commerce is collecting donations to decide which community leader will kiss a hog during Willamina’s Old Fashioned Fourth of July celebration.

Donors will find jars for newspaper publisher Clinton Vining, business owner Meredith Kendall Schaefer and pastor Connie Crawford Lain in multiple Willamina businesses. Simply drop a donation in the jar of the contestant you’d most like to see kiss a pig and the one with the most cash at 11 a.m. on July 4 will pucker up in front of the gazebo.

Donation jars are located at Gary Brooks dental office, Coyote Joe’s, Wildwood and Baker’s Sweets.

The community’s Independence Day celebration begins at 7 a.m. with the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast and continues through the day until the fireworks show after dark.

If you are planning on being in the parade, the registration starts at 3 p.m. in the field east of the fire station. Judging will be at 5 p.m. The parade goes down Main Street at 6 p.m.

There’s still time to register for the annual Friends of the Library 5K. Forms available at friendsofwillaminalibrary. webs.com. The race begins at 8 a.m. at Hampton Park.
